I stayed in Roma Norte and barely left a five-block radius for the first two days because everything I needed was right there — coffee, tacos, mezcal, parks.

The hostel social scene is strong. I joined a taco crawl my first night and had dinner company for the rest of the trip. Spanish helps but isn't essential in these neighbourhoods.

Take Ubers at night rather than walking long distances, and you'll have a fantastic, cheap trip.

Where I stayed

A social hostel in Roma Norte with a rooftop. Walkable to Condesa. Plenty of private-room options too if dorms aren't your thing.

Safety notes

Roma Norte and Condesa felt very comfortable. I used Uber after dark and avoided flashing valuables on the metro.
