Driving the Ring Road solo in September

Solo road-tripping Iceland was the most freeing thing I've done. The Ring Road is one loop, so navigation is basically impossible to mess up.
September meant thinner crowds and my first-ever northern lights outside Mývatn. It also meant real weather — check road.is and vedur.is every morning, every time.
Guesthouses were friendlier than hostels here for meeting people, and the soup-and-bread lunches saved my budget in an otherwise pricey country.
Where I stayed
A mix of guesthouses and one farm-stay. Book ahead in September — the good-value places near the south coast fill up.
Safety notes
The real risk here is weather and roads, not people. Don't underestimate wind when opening car doors, and never gravel-road in low visibility.
